 Anyone have e-book?

Posted by waltzingon@gmail.com at 09:30 PM on October 28, 2009

Is anyone doing the e-book thing? Do you like it? How difficult is it?

I'm looking for HIS303 if anyone has it on E-book. I have the regular book but am curious if it would help me more.

Let me know what you think!

I would like to try it because I could copy and paste some quotes and also it would take less space on my bookshelf. Not to mention, save some trees. I am also disabled and holding a book is painful to me.  But I want to know if we can sell the e-books like we do our used books. Anyone know anything?  Thanks Dee for posting this.

Hi--I have not tried e-books yet but I did check out the FAQ at Ed-Map and also sent an email with unanswered questions to them. E-Books can not be transfered/sold to another person; copyright issues. The virtual bookshelf system they use allows for the e-book to be accessed from two separate PC's only. Of course they do allow a reset if you obtain a new computer, but I'm sure your personal information is needed after the reset. Hope this helped answer your question on selling the e-books here.

I have used the e-books and did so for my history class.  It was easy to obtain and fast, and cost less than the physical book did new.  Of course, I bought it from edmap, which was my first mistake.  For my sociology class I was told that an ebook was not available unless it was listed on edmap.  While looking for a book i could afford, i found textbooks.com, where the ebook i needed was listed.  nice, ashford.  they aren't even up with their own technology!  anyway, the ebook is pretty cool, you can search for terms so it makes tests easy as pie.  you can also highlight things, make notes in the book, and create study guides.  I didn't use any of these options because I don't tend to read what i'm supposed to, lol.  but it would help someone that really reads.  you cannot transfer or sell back the book once you buy it, and i believe there are no refunds available.  i will say that it is a fast, quick, and sometimes money saving option if you cant get the physical book or cant afford the time or money.  however, the books on here are generally cheaper than the eversion, so i would look here before anything else.  if you cant find the ebook on edmap, try copying and pasting all of the book info that's listed in the class and posting it on google search, and a bunch of options come up on where different versions of the book can be found.  that's how i found it on textbooks.com.  just some tips from someone that has done a looottttt of reasearch!

It's also kind of cool because when you c&p a quote, it automatically cites the reference for you.  it's different in the e-book because instead of page numbers, it reads like 1.3.5, like chapter one, section 3, page 5 or something.  and it puts it into apa style right off the bat, but i had to keep revising it because i was trying to add quotes to my discussion posts, not a reference page. i do believe there is an option to give you real page numbers.  if anyone has any other questions, let me know here or email me at andreaaplin@yahoo.com.  thanks. :D

I purchased the E-book for Exp:105 and I find it very useful. You can choose to read the book yourself or there is an option to have the book read to you as you follow along. It makes returning to highlighted information real easy too. All the highlighted areas are shown on the right side of the screen under the chapter in which they pertain. The E-books really save money and they are very convenient. The only thing I see of a benefit to having the physical book is that you can sell it when you are done with it and regain some of your money. With the E-book that's not possible. I was kind of leary about purchasing the E-book before but now I wouldn't think twice.

I am extremely interested in E-books, but so far they havenot been available for my classes. It does stink that you will not be able toresell them. My question would be can you put an E-book on a thumb drive (flashdrive/memory stick)? Does anyone know?

I have a netbook for commuting to work that I would study on, but would prefer to use mylarger pc at home or work. It would be nice to be able to switch back and forth!

Since e-books cannot be resold, they are really more expensive in the long run. I will never buy an e-book because they are a rip-off! The company can make infinite copies of the book for no additional cost, but they are not that much cheaper than an actual book.

I bought almost all of my books through this site and I have pretty much broke even on all of them as long as I didn't have to buy a new one. The way it works, new books lose their initial value instantly, but used books retain most of their value. I have been able to buy used books and sell them for what I paid for them almost every time. Every new book I bought I had to sell it for half of waht I bought it for.

I have used e-books. Yes it is great for Project Green but there are a few down falls. You may want to consider, If your computer temporarily goes down you cannot continue to study. If you do not have a laptop, you cannot carry your book with you to study in those waiting in the car moments or at the Doctors, hospital or even lunch break. The next huge downfall is when you are taking the quiz, it is a bit risky to leave your quiz site and go through your e-book. You might lose your quiz in the process. That is my opinion on e-books. It is cost effective to continue on this site for your books. If you are not able to find your book here and the time is running close there is a site you can go to. I support this site 100% so I always search here first. My loyalty goes out to fellow AU Students. WhooRah! You can email me if you want the site. barbandq@msn.com
