Paypal Warning: Posted by Christina at 11:25 AM on October 17, 2009
I just wanted to share this information with everyone who buys and sells on this site, using Paypal. I had to learn a very hard lesson this last week. I sold two books, to two different individuals, through this site. I issued invoices through Paypal. Each person paid their invoice. I then went to Paypal and created the shipping label as soon as I received payment, put the books in the flat rate envelopes and mailed them the next day. Problem: Neither address was up to date in the Paypal system. Neither person has received their book. The tracking information issued by the post office says that one of the books has been returned and delivered back to me. I never received them. The second package was forwarded to the address on file at the post office. The forwarding address was not the correct address for the person who bought the books. We have no idea where the books are at this point. I've issued a refund on one of the books, so am now out the books and the money. Solution: Make sure your shipping address is up to date and current within the Paypal system. | |

Thanks for that tip. I have had the same problems in the past. The buyer should make sure that the seller has the correct address. This makes the seller look bad.

I as a seller always ask my buyers for his or her address before I ship because I know some people are so busy they forget to update his or her address on their paypal account.

I learned the hard way to pay the couple dollars extra for insurance. In fact, the first book I sold on here did not make it, the envelope arrived empty..and it was only going a few hours up the road in the same state! Good thing I had it insured, but I'm still trying to get my money back from the post office over a month later.

Just an FYI, you are a very sweet seller to refund their money. Anyone who purchases using their paypal is RESPONSIBLE on their own for making sure their address is correcting when giving it to the seller. If it is not correct it is their fault. ALSO, always check that their address is confirmed. It comes up when you receive their payment address after payment. If it's not confirmed paypal suggests not sending them their package until it is.

I learned my lesson with that. I sold a book and for the first time ever I did not get delivery confirmation. Not only did they get my book, but I had to repay paypal which means they got my book for free and I had to pay for it twice.

I know that insurance is recommended, but the process of trying to have the postal service pay out on an insurance claim is a very long one and many times they deny the claims. I always put delivery confirmation on my packages and always recheck the address.

I just want to know if anyone has come across a buyer's identity not being verified by paypal. I have been sent payment for a textbook but am skeptical in sending it because paypal has informed me that the person's identity has not been confirmed nor has their address been confirmed. Anyone suggestions would help if anyone can send them directly to me via email phashun27@yahoo.com.
Thank you much!
